Questions before increasing allowance

When my children were growing up, they would sometimes ask for an increase in their allowance. I would usually ask them three questions:

1. What is the purpose or reason for the perceived need for an increase?

2. How long has it been since your last request for an increase?

3. How have you been spending the allowances you have received?

I think voters would do well to consider these questions when our public officials ask for tax increases.

The purposes and reasons they present certainly seem valid. However, it has become far too frequent that they ask for tax increases! Furthermore, I think they do not spend our tax money wisely.

I hope voters will read about the issues before voting. It would also be wise to be sure one understands the wording on the ballot.
